Raccoons In Massachusetts If you've got problem raccoons in Massachusetts
Raccoons may cause damage to lawns while digging for grubs. They may also damage gardens by eating the produce. Raccoons are also known to eat pet food and garbage if improperly stored. Repellents may be effective to deter them from this behavior. Raccoons are carriers of rabies, distemper and parvovirus. Their feces can be extremely hazardous due to concentrations of raccoon roundworm. When ingested by humans this parasite may cause illness or death. Raccoons are omnivorous and will eat just about anything that doesn't bite back and many things that will. Raccoons have one litter per year, born in late spring, with 3-6 young per litter. The male raccoon is not involved at all in rearing the young and in fact may even kill and eat young raccoons if they find a den site.
